British School Bern
Primary Years
Primary Years in the British curriculum are made up of Key Stages 1 and 2.
In Key Stage 1, students are in years 1 and 2, and have moved on from the Early Years curriculum. They are learning to use the skills they gained in their Early Years as building blocks for deeper learning. The core topics covered are listed in the chart below. In addition to these subjects, they are also learning to work independently, make healthy choices, and how to more fully integrate the British School Bern values into their work and learning. Students attend traffic garden and bike safety workshops with the Bern police department.
In Key Stage 2, students are in years 3-6. The curriculum subjects are shared with key stage 1, however here pupils are learning more about who they are, and are encouraged to develop an awareness of how their choices affect themselves and others. They learn how to not just be independent learners, but how to pursue knowledge and make better choices. The British School values undergird their work and how they are working through the curriculum. In years 5 and 6 students attend workshops about internet safety and bullying, offered through the Bern police department.
